Thoughts on Apple Bloggers and Vision Pro Coverage

I posted this on Mastodon, but I figured I would cross-post it here as well. I wonder if we’re headed for a weird place with the #Apple Blogosphere (AKA the Apple Blog Mafia). All of the main players are talking about Vision Pro all the time and saying things like “I lose track of time in here!

Could the Apple TV Work as a Local Server for a LLM-Powered Siri?

On the December 26th episode of “Accidental Tech Podcast” there was a discussion about whether or not a future LLM-powered Siri could run locally on a HomePod or if it would need to run in the cloud. I thought this was an interesting question, and while I agree with their ultimate assumption that Apple would most likely will either use the cloud or require an upgrade to a new HomePod version if they launch a LLM-powered version of Siri, I also think that the Apple TV could potentially play a role here.

In the last hours of 2022, I wanted to take a quick moment and celebrate the gadgets that had the most impact on me this year. Steam Deck The Steam Deck is PC gaming rig that you can take anywhere. If there’s a better device for 40 year old fathers who like to play some games, I can’t imagine what it would be.

I shift gears a lot throughout the day both at work and at home between various projects as things pop up, and while I miss the days when I could just put headphones on and chip away at a single project all day, it’s just not an option for me in any of my roles (CTO, Dad, etc).

I Went With the iPhone 8

According to the press, and especially the fawning Apple bloggers, I don’t exist. Well, maybe I exist a little but I’m cheap, or stupid, or maybe confused…and cheap and stupid. No, I didn’t leak the iOS 11 Gold Master (I’d hate to be that guy and run in to John Gruber at a well lit Philadelphia craft cocktail bar), I’m just the only person in the world that ordered an iPhone 8 (Plus)…on purpose.
