Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Nintendo has another home run in “Super Mario Bros Wonder”. It’s definitely not the grand slam that Tears of the Kingdom was, but Wonder is a surprisingly fun game (I’m trying very hard not to say it’s wonderful) that breaks new ground while also giving old Mario fans a heavy dose of nostalgia.

My oldest son was dying for Wonder and he got it for Christmas, but since we share a Nintendo account, I got the game on my Switch as well and we both dove in Christmas afternoon. It is now five days later, and I beat the game this afternoon. I didn’t race through the game, and I still have some levels I need to get to and others I need to revisit, but I can safely say that the game and has found a nice balance between challenging and fun…plus the designers really found a way to allow themselves to venture in to truly wacky territory without throwing off the game. One notable example is the level where you see a new creature that eats goombas which naturally makes your life easier, but then half way through the level, you grab a Wonder Flower and you become a goomba!

Nintendo is really killing it in the Switch era.

It was a talk about bringing technology and entertainment together held in Beverly Hills and hosted by a coding bootcamp company. Two of the people on the panel were from a different bootcamp company, and then there was me, an actual technologist working in entertainment.

Apple Intelligence Summaries Are a Mess

Jason Snell over at Six Colors takes Apple to task over the current state of their Apple Intelligence notification summaries. He’s 100% right. They are bad, especially when summarizing news, and that’s unacceptable even with the “beta” tag. Take a look at his included example: A non-apology and the promise of a warning label isn’t enough.
