My Gopherfest Talk on go-alexa

I recently had the opportunity to perform a “lightening talk” at San Francisco’s Gopherfest 2016, a conference about the Go programming language, about my go-alexa library to create Amazon Alexa skills.

Still no word on when the video of my talk will be released, but I’ve embedded my slides below:

I love speaking to groups on fun topics like this and it’s something I hope to do more of in the near future. Let me know if you’d like me to talk to a group of people you know of…like a conference, or people waiting for the bus…whatever.

Alexa, Lets Play Jeopardy!

I’ve been playing around with my new Amazon Echo and writing up some “Skills” for the Amazon Alexa voice assistant and so far so good! What I’ve got above is a link to a YouTube video I did demoing a “Jeopardy” skill. It’s not fully baked in that you can’t play a complete game of Jeopardy, but you can choose a category, get a question, and it will keep score for you.

I’ve been using Go in my free time to work on little projects for the last few months and thought it was time to jot down a few thoughts on the language. Apple Intelligence Summaries Are a Mess

Jason Snell over at Six Colors takes Apple to task over the current state of their Apple Intelligence notification summaries. He’s 100% right. They are bad, especially when summarizing news, and that’s unacceptable even with the “beta” tag. Take a look at his included example: A non-apology and the promise of a warning label isn’t enough.
